Be Careful: Christmas Gifts Contains Heavy Metals

With Christmas Day is coming, the “greenpeace” group warned consumers choose gifts for the children need to be cautious, such as stationery, toys and jewelry.

As "Deadlines Daily” reported in December 8th and 15th’s paper, " green peace "randomly selective examination of 100 toys and stationery, found that 23 products contain heavy metals, and 3 of them lead exceed badly. In the random inspection of 57 popular Christmas gifts, such as jewelry, wallet, Christmas decorations and cell-phone case, found more than 20 of them out of limits of lead, and also found antimony, arsenic, the cadmium, chromium and other heavy metals.

As is well-known, lead is one the largest cumulative strong heavy metal. For children have several times ability of absorption to lead than adult, so the harm to children especially serious, long-term exposure to lead environment would influence mental development, physical growth, learning ability and the other various obstacles.

So far, Hong Kong is not very clear the provisions of heavy metals. The group also called on people to promote Hong Kong as soon as possible regulatory rules on the government, calling on the government to create a more strict children's products heavy metal standards and enhance management of heavy metals and chemical materials, on the purpose to reduce poisonous and harmful materials and protect our children away from invisible pollution sources.
